Food Rationing

Holy Smokes! (I'm actually saying the other S-word but I try to be polite in public.)

Major retailers in New York, in areas of New England, and on the West Coast are limiting purchases of flour, rice, and cooking oil as demand outstrips supply. There are also anecdotal reports that some consumers are hoarding grain stocks.

Read the whole thing. And here is the rest of it.

This isn't the first story regarding widespread food insecurity, and you can bet the big bucks it won't be the last. Food shortages aren't the only global catastrophes currently in the making, but they are among the most noticeable. Everything from energy costs and global climate changes to consumer demand affect food availability; a growing global population drives it all.

I've been doing a lot of reading today about food shortages across the world. 90 % of what I've read put some of the blame on the war, some blame on bio-fuel, which is understandable. Desperation for new ideas seems to backfire. I'm sure we've all been hungry at some point, but can you imagine having that feeling constantly, and no food in sight? Starvation isn't something any of us should allow to happen, I know know it's been going on for decades but it's getting worse and there has to be a plan of some kind, just think of how many people we could have fed with the billion's spent on the war. Very depressing.

With the price of food going up and up I'm glad that I don't have to pay full price for my prescriptions any more. I found a prescription discount card at www.rxdrugcard.com. There's a membership fee but it's only $4.95 a month for the whole family! And they put the drug prices on the website to check before you enroll.
